On the 1st of this month, the Japan Football Association announced the 26 players who will appear in the Qatar world cup (commencing on the 21st Nov) during a press conference in a Tokyo hotel. Osako Yuya (32, Kobe) who hasn't been called up since March due to injury, was not included this time, making this his 3rd tournament in a row where he wasn't included in the squad.

Kobe had planned to hold and live stream a conference at Noevir Stadium in the case of Kobe players being called up. However, no such player made the squad and thus the conference was cancelled. About 50 journalists had gathered to attend. When Osako's name, which was considered certain to be selected, was not called out, there were calls of "I can't believe this!" from both staff and journalists alike. The surprise of an empty seat which was to be filled by the man in question (Osako) filled the conference room with gloom.

When asked about the exclusion of Osako and former Kobe player Furuhashi Kyogo (Celtic), Moriyasu explained "It's based on what we have done so far, and the situation and condition the players are in now. When thinking about the World Cup, I selected not only the best forwards at the moment, but also considered the team as a whole."
